Foeticide....

Foeticide- a heart breaking survey….In a year about one million female fetuses are ‘killed’. More people think that as long as the fetus is inside the womb, it does not have any life. A survey shows that nearly 100millions of such fetuses have been killed in the past twenty years in the whole of the world.Whether educated or uneducated, rich or poor, people all over the world resort to such a dreadful practice. Most families do not want a female child as an addition to the family. With the advent of the most sophisticated gadgets like the ultra sonogram, more and more female fetuses are killed. Since 20 years the practice of killing the fetus has increased and as a result there is a reduction in the female population. A survey conducted by an Indo-Canadian group shows that in India the act of killing the female fetuses are more common than in any other country. Mostly people find out the sex of the fetus and they indulge in such killings. They don’t mind ‘murdering’ the fetus even after it has reached the period of viability. One in 25 fetuses is killed in a year. Though the government of India has imposed the law banning such sex determinations, yet it goes on in so many places especially in the villages. It is so much understood that the doctors are all the most indulging in such a practice. If we don’t stop the practice of determining the sex while in the womb, we are going to run out of female children in the future.

People need to be educated if dumb either boy or girl, its their kid.
I wonder whatz the difference being both as these days, both are highly educated and work in good paid jobs. Discrimination comes only from parents and not from outsiders.

Thank you Priya. Looks as though we are going to run out of female children soon. It is mostly the patient's husband and his family who are very particular about knowing the sex.

dear doc,

I agree with you one hundred percent on the sex based selection to eliminate is wrong in the womb.

However, I tend to differ accordingly with the situation upon which both the parents decided to abort the conceivement, if they think, that conceivement less desired to proceed further on in the background of timing or financial crisis etc.,

I am not sure though, but it depends I guess.

Although, I strongly stand against sex based elimination.

Come on! There are so many ways to avoid pregnanacy. doing Abortion no doubt is like killing a LIFE.

we doctors are the culprits here. Unless we determine the sex of the child, there is no scope for female infanticide. We are bound to uphold the highest ethical values and yet ...

It is really cold-blooded murder aided and abetted by a male chauvinist society and mercenary doctors. Those who have daughters treat them well, educate them and bring them up as a role models.
